Besides the main town of Sept-Îles, this sector comprises Gallix and Clarke City in the west, Ferland in the north and Moisie in the east. At the beginning, Gallix was a small fishing village. Nowadays, it’s a quiet suburb where workers of Sept-Îles and Port-Cartier settled down with their families. Clarke City was the first metropolis of the North Shore. Back then, it was an important industrial centre with its paper mill and its power station. Nowadays, visitors can still see heritage remnants of this epoch. You will find here the Sainte-Marguerite golf course, the Matikek zec and the Aluminerie Alouette.
Moisie was originally a fishing village that became an industrial centre in 1867 with the arrival of the “Compagnie des mines de Moisie” and a telephone company. Unfortunately, the mining company had to stop its activities only 8 years later. A military base was established in Moisie from 1960 to 1988. The city thus became a place where nature and large space lovers settled. Sept-Îles is itself an important residential and commercial centre and offers a privileged environment for families. It is located on the shores of the baie des Sept Îles, facing Pointe-Noire, where you can see the Sept Îles archipelago that gave its name to the city. The largest island, Grande Basque, offers hiking trails and campgrounds.
Several attractions can be visited in the Sept-Îles area like the Centre nature de Gallix where you can see black bears, wolves, lynxes and white-tailed deer. You can also visit the Centre d’interprétation de Clarke City in which you will discover the history of the village. The parc Aylmer-Whittom, the parc du Vieux-Quai and the parc de l’Archipel des Sept Îles await you for a few hours of fun and relaxation only a few steps from the city. For cultural visit, choose the Musée regional de la Côte-Nord, the Vieux-Poste, Shaputuan (an Innu cultural house) or the “La Patente” summer theater. You can also go bicycle riding along one of the many cycling paths, observe whales and do all kinds of sports activities. Sept-Îles has 10 deep-sea wharfs, so its harbour activity is very important.
