Havre-Saint-Pierre, founded in 1857 by inhabitants of the Magdalen Islands, was, for nearly half a century, the Episcopal see of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. In 1948, the city became industrialized with the exploitation of an ilmenite deposit. It became it’s a tourist destination after the Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve of Canada and its interpretation centre were opened. Here, you will also find the Maison de la culture Roland-Jomphe and the Centre d’interprétation de Havre-Saint-Pierre.
