Blanc-Sablon

The Blanc-Sablon area comprises Brador, Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon and Blanc-Sablon itself.

It’s near Brador that archaeological digs were done, on the site of the Courtemanche post, which was an important French commercial centre at the beginning of the 18th century. The interpretation centre recalls the European fishers who came to this village.

In Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon, you will find a health centre and many administrative offices. It’s a picturesque fishing village with a natural harbour, sheds and boats parked along the rocks. Besides, a statue of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, built in France, stands on top of a headland. Artefact and photograph collections are shown at the Musée Sheffer in the local church.

Blanc-Sablon is the site of archaeological digs studying the presence of the Europeans since the beginning of the 16th century. From April to December, a ferryboat links the land to Sainte-Barbe in Newfoundland. Only a few kilometres to the east lies the border between Quebec and Labrador. It is also possible to go on whale-watching cruises as well as safari-photo in boat or in car, accompanied by a guide.
